Principles
These are the rules I actually use. They apply to equipment, operations, and software the same way.
- Make the failure impossibleA warning is not a fix.
- Delete firstThe best part is no part.
- Name the goal, then the pathThe usual way is not an answer.
- Do not inherit the old wayTradition is often a shortcut that got repeated until it looked like law.
- Same way every timeThe four hundredth time is the first time.
- A check that cannot fail is not a checkGreen is worthless if nothing could have turned it red.
- Silence is a faultIf it failed and nobody could see it, it did not ship.
- Prove it on the real unitThe bench is not the line.
- Do not guess. Look.The machine and the last change beat a story about the machine.
- Write it downA failure nobody recorded will happen again.
