A fuse protects the wire, not the device

Context

The van ran a large inverter, air compressors, and other high draw tools off a battery bank, in the field with no support.

What happened

Fuses on that circuit kept blowing under normal working load. The fast answer is to fit a bigger fuse and get back to work, which is how electrical fires start.

What I changed

I went back to the system instead. I worked out the actual continuous draw of the loads, checked what the conductors on that run were rated to carry, and confirmed the higher rating sat inside the wire's capacity before I changed anything. The original fuse had been sized below what the system really pulled.

Result

The nuisance blowing stopped and the circuit stayed protected. A fuse exists to protect the conductor, not the appliance. Sizing up without checking the wire is not a fix, it is a fire waiting for a busy day.
